Tommy attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He started a clothing business while in college, Shaw's Menswear, and continued in both manufacturing and retail of clothing for ten years. He joined the Robinson Humphrey, predecessor of Morgan Stanley, in Macon, GA in 1988. He joined Wachovia Securities, predecessor of Wells Fargo Advisors in 2003 as Nan's business partner. They married in 2006 and now blend their families, work and friends in a career they thoroughly enjoy. Tommy is a lifelong golfer and member of Idle Hour Club in Macon, Reynolds Lake Oconee, and Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, NC. He enjoys fly fishing with his daughter, Sarah Ellen, a medical student, as were Tommy's father and grandfather.
