Currently work as a Financial Aid Advisor with Wake County Public Schools to help graduating students & parents maximize all financial aid options for college. Previously worked as Career Development Coordinator at Wake STEM Early College High School at NC State University. As a Nationally Board Certified Counselor guiding students to connect learning in the classroom to the demands of the 21st Century through work-based learning, college readiness, career and leadership experiences. Develop business, university & community partnerships, to engage business in education in order to bridge the classroom to the real world of work. Enable students to develop relevant career plans using data assessments and work-based learning opportunities to guide decision-making . As a NCDA FCD Instructor and Career Counselor, the ultimate goal is to assure that my peers assist students to attain 21st Century work skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity so they may be tomorrow's problem solvers. Previously, worked as the state Educational Consultant in K-12 Student Support Services for NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). Served as the Dean of Student Services at two high schools in Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), one of the largest public school systems in the country. Under her leadership, both schools received the RAMP award (Recognized ASCA Model Program) for implementing the National Model for School Counseling as outlined by the American School Counselors Association (ASCA). The ASCA Model Program is a data-driven, comprehensive school counseling approach to improve student achievement. Held middle and high school counseling positions in other NC public schools. In 2011, recognized as a finalist for the National School Counselor of the Year by ASCA. Presents routinely at national and state conferences, has contributed articles to the ASCA School Counselor journal and is an author of a book Working with Your School Administrator.
