Only after understanding their needs, goals and tolerance for risk do we turn our attention to their investment allocation. We call our investment decision process DGIA. This stands for dividend growth, innovation and allocation. The core of this is dividend growth strategies. Specifically, we look at companies that have increased their dividends for at least ten consecutive years. This is almost always a sign of financial health and indicative of future profits. This is designed to provide favorable returns and a rising income stream with less volatility then the broader market. Next, we look at innovative firms, those with disruptive technologies that may change how we work and live. Finally, we include in the allocation, asset classes such as fixed income or alternative investments in an effort to smooth out the volatility of the overall portfolio. We recognize the decision to enter into a business relationship is based on whether or not we find common ground.
