Selling convenience and knowing what people want is a skill I learned early on. At age 14, I started my own business with no capital. I sold imported goods to classmates who had no time and easy access to directly purchase them. I was able to convince retailers to trust an enterprising youngster like me, as another sales outlet on commission basis.
In the College of Engineering, my persistence was put to the test. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was forced to finish my thesis all by myself and I only had one semester to do it. To many, this was no easy feat as it normally took 3 in a group to finish a thesis in 3 semesters. I assembled networks of smart and talented graduates from my batch, who helped me through it, and I made it! This was a turning point for me as I started to believe that I can do anything I put my focus and energy on.
During my early 20s, I organised trade fairs, movie premieres, concerts, etc. as one-woman team. Bootstrapping with limited resources, I had to be creative and tapped university clubs as my marketing arm in ticket sales and they relied on my expertise in organising events, getting advertisers & sponsors. My resourcefulness & cost-effective strategies made every event I organised generate multiple returns with very little capital
I hatched my brainchild startup, the Philippines first-of-its-kind mail-order catalog (around the time Amazon started). Mall Runner provided a unique value to both shoppers and brands/merchants by closing the gap in shopping convenience. Armed with only a 4-page sample catalog & an idea, I launched the catalog without using our capital.
Founding several other businesses, I dabble in painting and in sports. All these rich experiences and discipline have led me to a new startup - BoardSpeak.
